Look...I've Actually Made a Thing!!

Hello!

I might have said this before but I seem to have a pattern for blogging; I'll blog for a few weeks and then not blog for a couple of weeks and then blog for a couple of weeks...etc, etc. so I've decided to make it part of the 'plan' so that way I can only ever blog more than I do normally!

I've actually made two things and half made a third but the second is my sister's birthday card and the half made third thing is her present as it's our birthday next week, I'll post those on our birthday because knowing my luck if I post them before, Robyn will actually look at my blog for once and see what I've made her!

Onto today's card which is for the latest challenge over at Papertake Weekly which is a Sketchy Free For All using this sketch:

You can basically do whatever you like with the sketch as long as the sketch is still in there somewhere so I decided to just turn it 90° clockwise so the image was along the bottom.

And here's what I've made:

I used one of the new Art Pads from Lili of the Valley, Set 15 'Furry Christmas' which has lots of gorgeous James the Bear and Jack, Patch and Puss images in including this gorgeous picture which you can also get as a stamp called 'Top Hat'. I think this is one of my favourite Jack, Patch and Puss images because it looks like the snowman is going, 'Yey! A top hat!' =)

I also used LOTV's 'Classic Christmas' paper pad which is such a gorgeous combination of traditional red and green papers. I added a couple of little red pearls in the upper corner because it looked a little bare.

I was going to use the 'Out of Box' technique to cut the image out but it was bit fiddly as there were some very small bits that I wanted leaving over the edges so I just drew around the inside of a Spellbinders Classic Oval die and cut it out with scissors.
I used Spellbinders Floral Ovals for the backing oval for the image and the red oval behind is the same die with the floral bits cut of so it left a little perforated edge.

This was meant to be posted earlier but I got caught up watching Downton Abbey, I'm only on the third episode but I already love it! It been spoilt slightly by the fact that I know who died during the Christmas special because I accidentally read it in the paper and then my Mum told me someone else died that I didn't know about! =(

Anywho, hope you like it!

Two More Challenges in One and Some LOTV C&C News!

Hello!

Hope everyone is alright?

Some very exciting Lili of the Valley news first of all; our shows last Thursday on Create and Craft were so popular everything sold out which is fantastic! Dawny will be back on the 24th October at 12 Noon with more fabulous products and demonstrations. She was so brilliant the first time round even though she was so nervous, we're very proud of her!

Onto today's card which is for two challenges again, the August Colour Challenge over at the Bugaboo challenge blog, Catch the Bug which was to use this picture as inspiration:

...and the new 'U for Unlimited' at ABC Challenges. I entered the ABC challenge for the first time last week and I made the Top 5!! Eeeeeee!! =D
I was scrolling down and saw my name and may have made a very high pitched squealing sound! =D

Anywho, here's the card I've made:

I've used the gorgeous digi stamp 'Sewing SB Measuring' from Bugaboo Stamps, isn't she adorable?! I also bought three more of her and had to resist the temptation to buy lots more digi stamps with her on!

The backing paper is from the Beach Bliss pad from Lili of the Valley, the pearls are from my stash and the frame I made with the Spellbinders Floral Ovals and then used Standard Ovals Large to cut the middle out.

I think I managed to get the colours quite close to the inspiration picture and I coloured her with Marine, Turquoise, Cobalt Blue, China Blue, Slate, Antique Pink, Dusky Rose, Sunkissed Pink and Coral Promarkers.

The dress form, stitching and sentiment are all from 'The Sewing Room' stamp set from Visible Image and I decided to just stamp the sentiment onto the backing paper instead of adding it as a separate element.
I stamped the sentiment first, masked it off and stamped the dress from, masked that off too and stamped the stitching around the edge.

Anywho, in the middle of watching Star Trek Into Darkness (I'm developing a bit of a thing for Chris Pine I think!) so it's back to the Enterprise!

Hope you like the card!

Back to School Challenge at Tiddly Inks

Hello!

Well it's been quite an exciting couple of weeks over at Lili of the Valley while we've been getting everything sorted for our appearance on Create and Craft and all of the fantastic products were shipped off to them today ready for Thursday! Hooray! =)

You can watch the fabulous Dawny from our DT who will be on with Nigel at Noon and 4pm on Thursday over on Create and Craft TV.

Right, on to today's card which is for the latest challenge over at Tiddly Inks which is 'Back to School'.

And here's the card I made:

I used the fantastically geeky TI 'Genius' digi stamp and coloured him with Berry Red, Blush, Chestnut, Cinnamon, Cool Grey 3, Cool Grey 4, Crimson, Ivory, Sunkissed Pink, Tan and Walnut Promarkers.

The papers are from 'Memorandum' Tiny Tablet by Lily Dee Designs, the die I've used for the page is Marianne Collectables 'Tab with Text', the letters are some I've had for ages that I think I got from Samuel Taylors, the little 'brads' on the clips are 'Newsprint' Candi from Craftwork Cards and the corners, clips and brackets are all Woodware Chippies coloured with Fired Brick and Frayed Burlap Distress Inks from Tim Holtz.

I was a bit worried about doing his hair because I thought it would look accidentally messy rather than purposely messy but it actually looks quite good, I probably couldn't get it to look like that again if tried but never mind! =)

Hope you like the card!

A Flowery 'Thank You' With Two Challenges in One

Hello!

Hope we're all having a nice weekend and looking forward to the extra lie-in in the morning here in the UK?

The brand new Christmas stamps from Lili of the Valley were launched today and they've been so incredibly popular, especially the new James the Bear stamps which are so gorgeous, James has got to be my favourite character. There's also some beautiful traditional images, cute polar bears and little squirrels too!

Onto today's card and this one combines too challenges in one; the new challenge over at Papertake Weekly which is 'Flower Power' and the 'T For...Thank you' challenge over at ABC Challenges which is a new challenge for me but it looks really interesting, I missed a few letters so far but never mind! =)

And here is the card I've made:

I used an image from the Jack, Patch and Puss Art Pad from Lili of the Valley, the pads are so fantastic for a quick card, and I cut it out with Spellbinders Classic Ovals Large.

The sentiment is also from LOTV, from Set 10 - A5 Verses and was also cut out with Spellbinders Classic Ovals Large. The back oval on the sentiment and the image are both from the Spellbinders Floral Ovals set.

The flowers and the leaves are Marianne Designs Chinese Rolled Roses and I did two with stripy centres and one with a plain green centre.

The paper are from the 'Animal Antics' paper pad by First Impressions and I was a bit worried about using two papers are they usually look a bit boring when I only use two but I think that the gorgeous stripes and then the lovely Floral Ovals stop it from looking plain.

Hope you like it!

Colour Changing Card and a New LOTV Blog Hop

Hello!

Hope everyone's alright? We've had a few very hectic days at LOTV this week getting everything packed and ready for our Dawny's appearance on Create and Craft next week! It's very exciting and we're sure she's going to be brilliant!

We also have a fantastic blog hop over on the Ideas to Inspire blog where you can win all 20 of the new Christmas stamps released this Sunday at midday.

I thought I'd share a card I made a little while ago with the Santa stamp from our last launch, and it's based on a Christmas card my Mum has kept since we were little that changed from black and white to colour when you pulled the tab. I used to think it was magic when I was five and I still love it! =D

This is the first time I've tried to make one of these so I kept it quite simple just to see if I could get it to work. I'm really pleased with the way it's come out and it wasn't too difficult to figure out how to do it.

I tried to stamp and heat emboss it to start with but the acetate went all wibbly even though it was heat-proof so I stamped it on to printable acetate and it worked much better but there are a couple of patches where the acetate hasn't held the ink properly.

Here you can see the difference between the black and white and coloured images and I'm rather pleased that I managed to stick the acetate down so that it matched up perfectly with the image underneath! =)

I can't remember the colours I used because it was quite a while ago, sorry. =/
I used Lili of the Valley papers from the Classic Christmas pad and distressed around all of the edges with Memento Cocoa ink. I used new Joy! Crafts Ice Crystals 1 and 2 for the top snowflake and the Ice Crystals Border for the bottom which I trimmed down and overlapped. I distressed them all with Memento Cocoa ink as well.
I used Spellbinders Standard Rectangles Large for the aperture and Standard Circles Small for the tab cut tout at the top.

I really enjoyed doing this so I'm sure I'll definitely be doing one of these again!

Hope you like it!

Tiddly Inks 3rd Birthday Challenge

Hello!

Quick post tonight for the latest challenge over at Tiddly Inks as I'm catching up with Supernatural at the moment, my favourite TV programme, it's absolutely brilliant, and I'm halfway through Season 5 and I've just been crying with laughter at one of the episodes! =)

Anywho the challenge at TI is is to create anything with a birthday theme to celebrate their 3rd birthday! Happy Birthday Tiddly Inks! =)

So here's the card I made:

I've used Tiddly Inks ridiculously cute digi stamps For the Birds and coloured them in Caramel, Cool Grey 1, Cornflower, Ivory, Lime Zest, Putty, Sandstone, Tulip Yellow and Warm Grey 4 Promarkers to match the papers which are all from the Up, Up and Away pad from First Edition. I also outlined the birds, the edge of the image and the edge of the sentiment in Cornflower blue.

I hand wrote the 'P-A-R-T-Y-!' letters onto the signs and cut the layers with Spellbinders Classic Scallop Rectangles Large.

The sentiment is from Set 25 Handwritten Phrases from Lili of the Valley. The flower is from the Spellbinders Bauble Blossom One set and is also made with the Up, Up and Away papers.

The two banners are made with papers from the same pad and cut out with the La-La Land Heart Banner die which is so gorgeous, it goes with just about anything.

Anwho, back to Supernatural and the Winchester boys!

Hope you like the card!

PTW 'Occasion-ally' Challenge

Hello!

Hope everyone's alright? Quick post today for the latest challenge over at Papertake Weekly and this week it's 'Occasion-ally' and here is the card I've made:

I used a set of spool stamps from Prima to make a patterned background, I don't actually know the name of the set because it doesn't say it anywhere! I stamped them in Memento Cocoa ink onto the plain blue paper from Lili of the Valley's Bear Necessities pad. I cut the dress form out with the La-La Land Dress Form die and added 'wings' to it using the little flourish dies in the Joy! Crafts Oval die set which I also used to make the frame behind. The blue papers are the same papers from the Bear Necessities pad just left plain.
I used Spellbinders Standard Circles Large and Small for the layering on the sentiment which is from Set 18 Greetings Postmarks from Lili of the Valley. The flowers are Marianne Chinese Rolled Roses.

I did plan on this card being quite simple to start with but it was a bit too fussy to be simple and not quite fussy enough to be fussy! I think it might be a little too fussy now but I do still quite like it.

Anywho, hope you like it.

Quilt update, my Mum gave Laura and Harvey his quilt the other day and he loved it! Laura said he couldn't stop staring at it! Here he is all bundled up, isn't he gorgeous?

Hope you're having a nice weekend?

Less is More Colour Challenge

Hello!

A quick post today for the latest challenge over at 'Less is More', my internet keeps going off so I'm trying to do this as quickly as possible!

There's a colour theme this week using this gorgeous picture as the inspiration:

I think I've just about managed it! I don't usually go for these sorts of colours so it was nice to try something new.

So here's what I've done:

I've used several different embossing folders that I've had for a while: Darice 'Rulers', Crafts Too 'Dots', Darice 'Honeycomb' and Darice 'Cloudy Sky' and embossed some Coredinations 'Elements' and 'So Mod!' papers, (I tried sanding them back but for some reason they looked a bit strange!) and the sentiment is from the Honeycomb stamp set from Clearly Besotted Stamps. I popped them all on 1mm foam pads to give it a bit of dimension but made two of them a little higher.

I thought it was going to end up looking a little boring because I always think my 'simple' cards do but I do really like this!

Anywho, hope you like the card!

My First Quilt! Hooray!! =D

Hello! So, it finally stopped raining the other day long enough for me to take photos of the baby quilt I made for my friend Laura and her gorgeous baby boy, Harvey! I didn't get the chance to give her it at the weekend when I went to see Mum because I wasn't very well but I left it with Mum so she'll be able to give it to her. I just hope she likes!

So, here it is...

I decided to use nice bright colours because I don't see why baby colours have to be pastel shades all the time, and it's a nice size at about 34x50" so Laura should be able to use it for quite a few years hopefully!
It needed a bit of an iron at this point and the edges are straight it was just a bit breezy when I was taking the photos!

And a look at the back, unfortunately it bunched up a bit at one side when I was sewing the lines across and it does look a bit worse in the photo than it actually is. =(

A bit of a close up on the back quilting. I decided to keep the quilting nice and simple the first time round and not make it too complicated.

And here's a closer look at the quilting from the front.

I also added a little 'Handmade' tag to the bottom which I thought added a nice little touch...

...and I even had some help from Mr Fluffy Bum!

Apart from the slightly wrinkly back on the quilt I'm actually rather proud of it considering it's my first one. I have a bit of an urge to make a nice geeky quilt for my bed but I only just managed to fit this one on my little sewing table so I think I'll wait until I have a bit more space to start another one; I've got plenty of other crafty projects in mind to keep me going!

Anywho, hope you like the quilt!

Tiddly Inks DT Call

Hello!

Well, I finally, FINALLY managed to finish the baby quilt for my friend! Yay! It's come out quite well although it's managed to bunch up a bit on the back when I was quilting it but it's ironed out a bit better so doesn't look as bad. I'll post some pictures soon, there's isn't anywhere to take them in the house, it's been raining so I haven't been able to take them in the garden and the one time it wasn't raining this week one of my housemates actually decides to hang their washing on the line!
I'm going to see my Mum at the weekend so hopefully I'll be able to give the quilt to Laura then for her gorgeous baby boy Harvey.

Anywho, onto today's card and it's for the very exciting Tiddly Inks DT call!

I've been thinking about whether or not to enter this because I never think anything I do is quite good enough but after a bit of encouragement from Anne I decided to go for it!

If we had a favourite image then we could use that and two of my favourites are this gorgeous Wizardette image and the matching Wizard and of course they just remind me of Harry Potter which is probably my favourite book series.
I decided to colour her as my favourite character from the series, Luna Lovegood. I think she's a fabulous character because she's exactly who she is all the time and she doesn't care if people think she's a bit strange and I love that about her. She's also a Ravenclaw and I'm in Ravenclaw on Pottermore! :)

I used the Ravenclaw moto of 'Wit beyond measure is Man's greatest treasure' for the sentiment which I printed in the Lumos font from dafont.com, they have so many fantastic fonts there's probably one for any project you could think of.

I've coloured her in Black, Cool grey 5, Blue Pearl, Meadow Green, Blush, Sunkissed Pink, Mustard and Pastel Yellow Promarkers and, of course, I had to give her a Ravenclaw blue scarf in Midnight Blue and if anyone was going to match her socks to her scarf it would be Luna so I gave her blue socks too!
It's the first time I've tried to colour anything that's meant to be black so I coloured her robes in Black first and then went over it with the Cool Grey 5 to break up the solidness of the black. It's come out quite well but I think I need a bit more practice! I'm also really happy with the way I've coloured her hair so that seem to be getting better!
I also added a few Memory Box Cosmic Stars for a bit more of a wizardy feel.

Anywho, hope you like the card and good luck to everyone who's entered the DT call!

The Cornetto Trilogy and Exciting LOTV News!!

Evening!

Hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous weather? It's been a bit warm for me so I've been hiding in the house whenever I've not been at work so I have absolutely no tan whatsoever! It's cooled off a bit now and there's a lovely breeze coming through the window next to me so I'm happy =)

First bit of news, we had a little house guest here for a few days this week, a gorgeous little kitten that my house mate decided to call Public Relations Officer! =S

Housemate Lee found him in a bush in our garden and brought him in and he was so adorable! He's tiny, he could sit in one hand and he loved cuddling and getting up under your chin and rubbing his head on yours! Unfortunately we couldn't keep him because Lee and Issi's cat, Mr Fluffy Bum (Lee shouldn't be allowed to name things!) wasn't happy about another cat in the house so Issi's friend picked him up and is now looking after him. Hopefully they'll find whoever's missing him because there's no way someone isn't missing him because he's so gorgeous!

Next bit of news, yesterday myself, my sister Robyn and our Mum went to the cinema for 'The Cornetto Trilogy' from Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, which was Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the new film The World's End shown back to back.

It was fantastic, it was so much fun and even though we'd seen Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz so many times, and they're still funny every time, they seemed to be funnier when watching them with a cinema full of people! There was a great introduction to the trilogy from the makers before the films where they talked about making the films and mentioned that the 'F' word is said 77 times in Shaun of the Dead and that we had to clap every time it was said, and most people did!

Myself and my sister made ourselves t-shirts for the occasion, mine with Shaun on and Robyn's has 'You've got red on you' which is probably one of the most quoted lines from the film!

Shaun holding his trusty cricket bat and bunch of flowers!
And here we are in our t-shirts! I'm on the left, looking a bit fat and Robyn looking weirdly taller than me!
We were all meant to get a free Cornetto ice cream as it was the Cornetto Trilogy (Cornettos appear in every film at some point) but the cinema either forgot or they were hoping everyone else had because no one mentioned it so that was disappointing but, we did all get a free ticket to any other film we wanted because the sound wasn't playing properly at the beginning of The World's End so they had to stop it for ten minutes to get it sorted so it was nice of them to give all 100-odd people in our screen a ticket.
Mum brought our dog, Buzz, with her as she wasn't going to be at home for about nine hours so we couldn't leave him on his own but Lee looked after him for us and he was apparently 'good as gold' all night. We didn't get home until about 3am and Buzz was fast asleep on my bed.
I'm weirdly not tired after having five hours sleep but I probably will be tomorrow.

Anywho, on to the exciting LOTV news; we're going to be on Create and Craft TV!! =D
Our fantastic DT member Dawny P is going to be doing the demonstrations for us so Laila and Lisa can concentrate on running the company and don't have to worry about organising demonstrations for the TV.
Laila, Lisa and Dawny all went down to Peterborough on Tuesday so Dawny could do her screen test (which she passed perfectly just as we knew she would!) and Laila and Lisa could finish sorting some details but we're hoping to have our first show in August with lots of gorgeous products! It's very exciting! Dawny's been dying to tell everyone for days so she's rather excited too!

Anywho, hope everyone's having a nice evening, I think I'm going to have a play with some new LOTV goodies!

Come On Andy!!

Evening!

Photograph: Glyn Kirk/AFP/Getty Images. From www.guardian.co.uk
Andy Murray has won the 2013 Wimbledon Men's title!!! =D

He beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-4,  which I didn't think he would do, I thought it would go to five sets if he won it at all! It was such an amazing match! He had complete control in the first set, came back from 4-1 down in the second and then 4-2 down in the third. I was so nervous and there was a horrible moment in the second set when I thought Djokovic was going to break Murray's serve and he was going to end up beating him. In the last game of the match I ended up standing in the middle of the room jumping up and down and shouting at the TV! In the end Murray managed to be the first British man to win the Men's Singles title as Wimbledon since 1936!

Marion Bartoli also won the Women's title yesterday against Sabine Lisicki 6-1, 6-4.

GETTY IMAGES www.independent.co.uk

It was quite a one sided match and Lisicki almost started crying on the court at one point.

Thought I would me a nice Wimbledon-y card and of course, I've had to do some strawberries, it's not Wimbledon without strawberries and cream!

I've used a Lili of the Valley stamp 'Strawberries' and the sentiment is also from LOTV 'Words for Tags'. I've coloured the image with Forest Green, Ruby, Poppy Satin, Pastel Beige, Ivory, Cool Grey 1, Cool Grey 2 and Cool Grey 3. Excuse the photograph, my camera isn't working very well so I've had to use my phone which is awful!

The German Grand Prix highlights were on afterwards and that was an bit of an interesting race! At one point the engine of Jules Binachi's Marussia exploded in a huge cloud of smoke, caught fire and then rolled backwards across the track after Bianchi had parked it before the marshals could roll it behind the barrier! There was another horrible moment when one of Mark Webber's pit stops went wrong and he was released too early causing a rear wheel that hadn't been tightened properly to come off the car and hit a camera man! Luckily he was alright but it was ridiculous that Red Bull let Webber out before they were sure all the tyres at been changed. In the end Mark Webber's tram mate Sebastian Vettel won the race, the first time on his home ground in Germany.
This year seems to be unnecessarily dangerous after there were five tyre blowouts at the British Grand Prix and a marshal was killed at the Canadian Grand Prix after falling under a crane that was moving a broken down car. Hopefully there won't be anymore horrible incidences this year!

It's been quite a stressful weekend of sport! Hope you like the card.

ANDY MURRAY WON!! Hooray!!! =D

Featured in Tiddly Inks Fabulous Inky Friday!

Hello!

Very exciting news! I was featured in last weeks Idly Inks Fabulous Inky Friday! Hooray! So excited! =D All the cards were so gorgeous I can't believe I was picked!

I've just got few bits and some photos to share today, it's the Wimbledon Women's Final today so I'll be watching that and probably not doing much crafting!

I started crochet classes last week and so far it's been really good, I did find out this week that I had been doing the double crochet stitch that we'd been shown in the first week wrong even though I'm absolutely positive that I was doing it the way I was shown! Lucky, what I'd been doing was an actual stitch and not one that I'd made up! Anywho, we had to stitch a piece big enough to cover our phone to make it into a cover for it, and this is what I made:

I'm rather proud of it! It's my first ever bit of crochet and although it's in the wrong stitch it's not too bad and doesn't have too many big holes in! We were taught how to do two different edges in this week, Picot edge and shell edge, I really don't like Picot edge, it's just seems really complicated and doesn't look very neat (at least when I do it!), this edge though is really nice and easy to do and this is the shell edge; I think I'll be doing this on most things!

Our crochet homework this week was to do a foundation row of 31 chain stitches and then do shell stitch all the way along because when you roll it up it looks like a flower!

I tried it with some red and green yarn I already had which was a little thinner and although it was a bit trickier it still worked quite well.

My sister came home from Uni for the Summer last week too so we took the dog to the beach at Southport because we had to go back for some of Robyn's things and she's at Uni at Edge Hill near Liverpool. It was really nice and warm but not very sunny, it was also quite muddy where we were and Robyn managed to slip over kicking the dog's ball...

...which was hilarious! We couldn't stop laughing for about half an hour!

And here Robyn is asleep in the car on the way home with her animation model, Chuckles and if you think he looks creepy, that's because he is!

Anywho, this post has taken me so long to write because I keep getting distracted by the tennis, the Women's match has almost finished! It's currently 6-1 5-3 to Marion Bartoli against Sabine Lisicki. I'll let you know how it finishes!

A Bit of Organising and a new Tiddly Inks Challenge

Hello!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend?

I've had a bit of an organising weekend for some reason, I've organised my dies into ring binders because so far they've all been together in a bag, organised some of my craft things and using the two second t-shirt folding trick (which took me a bit longer than two seconds) I managed to organise all my t-shirts so they were just a tiny bit neater!

Here's my t-shirt drawer before...

..and after! So much better, I can see which t-shirt is which without taking them all out and I've got room for more! =)
I have taken some t-shirts and vest out that I haven't worn for years and they're now in a pile to be made into other things. I'll see if I'm in an organising mood tomorrow and might attempt the rest of my craft things and the wardrobe!

Anywho, on to today's card which is for this week's Tiddly Inks challenge which is 'Summer Sun', and here's what I did:

I've used the digi stamp 'Wryn's Flower Garden', they're just so cute and cheerful! I shrunk the digi down to make the little matching tag on the jar which is full of some of the Runts sweets my sister brought me from New York, the paper is Bo Bunny Very Vintage Double Dot; I do like those papers!
I've coloured them both with Amethyst, Cool Aqua, Baby Pink, Sunflower, Lipstick Red, Pumpkin and Lime Green Promarkers. The sentiment is also from Tiddly Inks but I can't seem to find exactly where it is on the website =(

Anywho, hope you like it! I've got this coming week off work so I'm going to have a go at some of the 8 million craft ideas I've pinned on Pinterest! We'll just have to wait and see how far I get with them!
